giant puppets Pozible

Upatree Puppetry are now ready to create their giant puppets from the designs we created during the project, (see my photos of the thing with feathers) and are asking for help through crowd sourcing. Here’s the link: http://pozible.com/giantpuppets

They are offering some of their prints of locks, keys skulls and other magic things for help reaching their goal.

……. and they did!!!!!

t shirt printing

We printed on lovely soft unbleached organic cotton shirts at Indigiscapes Nursery at Capalapa today. This tree of life image is one I’ve been dreaming on for a little while, and I felt thrilled seeing the lovely images the children cut into their paper stencils and printed onto their shirts.

paisley peace

This has been an ongoing theme in my community textile projects. Everyone creates an offering for a screen, and we arrange them together to form the designs. I can then use the screens for charity/not for profit printings, somewhere one day along the track.

Last week I dusted a few older screens off and printed from this one, made at Brisbane Institute of Art during one of my weekend workshops. I feel enchanted by the designs people draw into those swirling ying-yang shapes, and the nature of paisley seems to accommodate very contrasting designs .

tip-toe

Our tip piece is complete!

For the Brisbane Tip Shop project my group have been stamping, colouring and printing patterns of Dragonflies, and learning what shapes are drawn to create a dragonfly. We put a soft surface on the table so that it can be used for stamping, screenprinting and blockprinting. After the competition finishes we will allow a buildup of our other prints over the bold dragonflies on the top of the table. These can look really spectacular when they build up over time.

bit tipsy

The idea is to reinvent a piece of furniture from the tip. My piece is a big black table.

My friends Sharon and Brianna have some  blog entries about their Tip shop adventures there and they won the competition!

their descriptions and photographs gave me a giggle and want to take a trip there,

It’s a Brisbane Council arts initiative and it’s the Brisbane Tip shop and Endeavour Foundation. Here are photos of the big black table that my group in the creative arts centre are transforming. Yesterday we played with some dragonfly ideas

from little things…..

Skip diver trees. I don’t like plastic, the look of it, the feel of it, it’s horrible smell and when I hear the those squeaky styrofoam noises and scrunchy plastic sounds it makes I feel irritated. The fact that is never breaks down deeply disturbs me. All those little plastic things seven billion of us use form giant mountains of rubbish on the land, then with rain, lo and behold! Islands the size of continents form that are choking the ocean. The sludge of the oil industry is transformed into one use products that we often don’t need. Why do we moan about the price of petrol when water is sold in one use bottles for a pretty penny? Whatever happened to bubblers, and legs? What ever happened to getting broken things fixed?  The bottle continues it’s dance into the landfill and sea after the one drink wonder is done. Good planets are hard to find. Why are we smothering ours with layers of plastic? Trees are like us in reverse, they breathe in what we breathe our and our waste is their food. Perfect engineering with perfect packaging, the water keeping it all moving, rotating plant to animal.

Why are we poisoning our water? Its about time we all jolly well woke up to ourselves.
